What is a microphone mode?Microphone mode (Voice Isolation) is a feature that was implemented with iOS 15.
It shuts out all sounds and voices except your own, making it a useful feature for meetings in town or when working from home.
Note, however, that microphone modes cannot be used for regular calls made over a phone line or on Discord.
Microphone mode can be used for LINE, Slack, Zoom, Google Meet and others.
How to set the microphone modePut simply, microphone mode is not something set in advance.
The microphone mode can be only set during a call.
The following is a step-by-step procedure with images to set the microphone mode during a call.
- Swipe down from the upper right corner of the screen during a call to bring up the Control Center
- Tap the microphone mode
- Tap Voice Isolation and you are done!

- Is your iPhone updated to iOS 15 or higher?
- Are the earphones or speakers connected or turned on?
- Are you making a call using a phone line?
There are three microphone modesIn addition to “Voice isolation,” there are two other microphone modes: “Standard mode” and “Wide-spectrum mode.”
Voice isolationA mode that shuts out sounds and other voices besides your own.
This is useful when you hear noise in the city or when you work from home and your family’s voices can be heard.
Standard modeThere will be no correction and the call can be made normally.
Standard mode is selected by default.
Wide-spectrum modeThis mode picks up all sounds heard during a call. Recommended
when you want the other person to hear the sounds around you, such as ambient noise and music. Note: Cannot be used in combination with earphones.
